Isabella’s Midsummer Escape: A Relaxing Retreat at Garbolund Farm
My adventure to a peaceful retreat at Garbolund Farm
In late June 2024, my friend and I decided to escape the hustle and bustle of Copenhagen by visiting Garbolund in Annisse. The journey was straightforward, taking about 1.5 hours via public transport from Copenhagen.
Garbolund is owned and lovingly operated by the amazing Jette, who greeted us warmly upon arrival. Our goal for this trip was simple: to unwind, enjoy nature, and indulge in some delicious food.
Where we stayed
The trip to Garbolund was smooth and enjoyable, with the scenery gradually transitioning from urban to lush greenery as we approached. The final leg of the journey, a bus ride, dropped us off right at Garbolund’s doorstep, making it incredibly easy to get there.
Upon arrival, Jette welcomed us with a tour of the farm, sharing the rich history behind it. This personal touch made our stay even more special, allowing us to appreciate every detail of the property. The service was impeccable, and Jette’s passion for Garbolund was evident throughout our stay.
We stayed in a spacious 4-person room called the “Pilgrimsstuen.” The room was well-equipped with everything we needed, from morning coffee to a cozy space to read and listen to the radio. The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the tapas platter prepared by Jette. The platter featured local, organic, and home-produced ingredients, which we savored while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the farm. The experience of sipping Garbolund wine, surrounded by fresh flowers and a serene setting, was everything we could have wished for.

Visit the Local Church: Make sure to visit the nearby church, which offers breathtaking views of the lake. The walk through the small village with its charming houses and lush gardens is a highlight in itself.
Discover the Farm Shop and Wine Cellar: Spend time exploring Garbolund’s farm shop, where you can purchase handmade bowls, cups, and their signature homegrown wine. The wine cellar, where Garbolund wine is produced from grapes grown on the farm, is a must-see.
How to plan for this adventure:
- Best Time to Visit: Garbolund is beautiful year-round, but the period from spring to late summer is particularly magical, with everything in full bloom and the weather perfect for outdoor activities.
- Pack Light: You don’t need much more than yourself, as Jette has thoughtfully provided everything you’ll need, from bedding to meals. Take advantage of the option to purchase dinner and breakfast, which makes your stay even more relaxing.
- Join a Wine Tasting: If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend joining one of Garbolund’s wine tastings. It’s a great way to learn more about the farm’s wine production and enjoy some of the local flavors.
