The responsible guest guide
Sharing the natural spaces we love with an ever-growing and diverse community requires responsibility.
Campanyon is committed to sharing that responsibility with you. After all, our focus is on companionship and protecting the nature we cherish and depend on. To help you act responsibly towards both the environment and others, we’ve created a set of guidelines to follow throughout the four stages of your journey.Planning your adventure
Travelling responsibly starts while planning your trip. Prepare and do research before heading off to your adventure.Learn about the destination
Find out about the regulations in force in the area you are going to, especially concerning fires and roaming in nature. What natural areas are protected and which ecosystems are fragile?Research local lifestyle
Learn about the locals and their way of life – culture, traditions, habits, their economy. Respecting local practices shows respect and makes mingling easier.Travel outside of high season
If possible, plan your travels outside of peak periods to avoid overloading the sites. Aim to travel solo, as a duo, or in small groups of 4 to 6 people maximum.Mind the carbon footprint
Favor emission-free means of transport – walking, biking, canoeing. Opt for (shared) low-emission transport: train, bus, carpooling. Refrain from air travel as much as possible.Come equipped
Bring what you need, but don’t overpack. Consider reusing, borrowing, or buying second-hand before buying new items. Try buying from eco-friendly and socially conscious brands. Before your stay
Campanyon is fostering a welcoming and inclusive community of hosts and guests. Here’s how you can already build good host-guest relations before your arrival.Get in touch with your host
Whether for booking adjustments or additional info, you can easily chat with your host via your inbox. It’s best to share your estimated arrival time so the host can prepare.Review rules and welcome info
Don’t forget to read through the information provided before asking questions. You can find all rules on the listing details page and share them with your travel party.Check group size and equipment
Follow your host’s occupancy limits and verify your group size with them before you arrive. Double-check your luggage before heading out.Adapt your expectations of the place
Be aware of what you’ve booked and ensure you understand the specifics of the location and its conditions. Campsites can get muddy, and wooden interiors may creak.During your stay
Most of the rules to remember during the trip are common sense. We’re sharing some of the most important (and obvious) guidelines.Show your best smile
Greet your host upon arrival and say goodbye when leaving. Stay respectful of other visitors to help have the best experience. Smiles open doors and hearts.Don’t disturb flora and fauna
Part of protecting nature is leaving her be. Your presence can disturb wildlife up to a km away, so be mindful. Look, don’t touch. Keep distance. Don’t feed wildlife human food and always ask the host before feeding their animals.Be fire-safe
Wildfires are increasingly common. We have to do our part to prevent them. Ask your host before starting bonfires onsite and don’t throw cigarette butts on the forest floor.Campfire safety
If your host allows campfires onsite they will have made the necessary precautions. Only light campfires in designated areas and with dead wood. Don’t harvest live wood from trees.Follow rules of the place
Stay respectful of your host and their land by taking the time to review any rules or restrictions they may have. Make sure everyone in your group is aware of these rules.Limit your noise
Respect quiet hours so others and neighbours remain undisturbed. If the host did not set quiet hours, use your best judgement based on privacy and space to avoid being disruptive to others.Adhere to safety warnings
Your host may point out potential hazards or share relevant emergency info like phone numbers or where the the nearest hospital is located. Be aware of emergency procedures.Dispose garbage, recycle, compost
Hosts will indicate where and how to dispose of trash or ask you to take your trash with you when leaving. In that case, bring compostable trash bags. Most importantly, do your best to reduce waste!Dispose of human waste responsibly
Hosts set rules for disposing of human waste to ensure it is done in an environmentally friendly way and in compliance with local laws. Be sure to use any onsite facilities if available.Respect the locals
Be mindful of neighbours, adhere to speed limits, and remember that rural communities are home to others.Keep your pet in check
You must keep your pets in control, keep them from causing harm, and ensure they’re reasonably quiet at night. Be sure to follow your host’s leash policies.Play your part
Playing your part is more than respecting your host’s land and rules at all times. It’s doing your best to ensure you leave the place and community as you found it or—ideally—even better. After your stay
The journey doesn't have to end after your stay. Your responsibility towards others and the environment certainly doesn’t. This is how you can continue to care.Leave a review
Help our nature-loving community to make the right choice and highlight one of the best stays you've had with the rest of the community.Offset your emissions
Calculate the carbon footprint of your trip. You can offset these emissions by making environmentally conscious decisions in your daily life and donating to a local organisation.Social Media
Social media makes up the world we show each other. It affects how we behave in communities. Use this superpower for the benefit of the environment.
Don't geotag precisely the places you visit. Content yourself with a vague area (a region, a city, a massif) rather than revealing the name of a beach or a tiny refuge. Before sharing a specific address, check with the host to see if the place can accommodate more people.
Educate your followers. Be sure to mention the sensitive aspects of the places you share, such as their ecosystems and biodiversity.
Be inclusive, always and everywhere
We expect that everyone works to foster a sense of safety and inclusivity while using Campanyon, regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, political views, religion, national origin, or culture. We do not tolerate any type of discrimination.
This includes hosts and guests. Using Campanyon is an agreement to uphold our shared commitment to building resilient communities by fostering a hate-free environment.
If you encounter discriminatory language, symbolism, or any type of disrespectful behavior on Campanyon, or if you have been a victim of or witnessed a discriminatory experience with a host, please report it to hello@campanyon.com. This will help us address discriminatory behaviors and maintain a tolerant community.
We carefully review cases of ill conduct and discriminatory behaviour and can choose to restrict access to the platform for both guests and hosts that show unacceptable behaviour.
