Different types of glamping France
Glamping tents
The glamping tent is the most common type of accommodation used for France glamping. Glamping tents usually fit 2-4 people, but can fit more depending on their size and layout. Glamping tents often have a central pole and are relatively easy to set up, which is one of the reasons they’re used at glampsites. Another reason is that they look great – like this glamping tent in Eco-village de Pourgues and Lodge “Le Maysou” on L’Enclave Insolite.
Yurts
The yurt has a special place in the hearts of glampers because they are so well adapted to the French climate. Yurts are traditionally Nomadic tents that might be a bit tougher to set up, but are especially spacious and suited for all seasons. The yourtes traditionelles à la Ferme des Ânes are a beautiful example of Mongolian craftsmanship, as is this yourte au coeur des Vosges.
Teepees
The teepee is a conical tent used by indigenous people and looks somewhat like glamping tents but without the central pole. Teepees are sometimes used for glamping as a special accommodation, like this Sioux tipi on Ecodomaine La Rêverie. There’s even a camp of tipis au coeur des Vosges.
Glamping pods
Many glampsites offer glamping pods and you can rent them for relatively cheap. They mostly feature a double bed, kitchenette and deck. They will sometimes have a bathroom. Most glamping pods are built from wood and sleep two, like Les Cabanes de Labrousse dans les Arbres en Ardèche. Some pods feature unique details, like this magnifique chalet en bois perdu dans la campagne.
Dome glamping
Domes are not without reason a popular way to go glamping in France. They are perfect in the mountains as they can withstand weather while often offering beautiful panoramic views and are sometimes even transparent. The Chéry Dome in Les Gets has gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains. The Artibulle Nuit Insolite is transparent and has a full view of the surrounding forest.
Tiny houses
As the name suggests, tiny houses are small but with all the amenities of a home. They’re often built on a platform with wheels and off-grid. Tiny houses usually don’t fit more than two people, but some are adapted for glamping with four guests. This tiny house on a vineyard in Saint-Émilion sleeps two, while this tiny house on a equestrian center fits four people.
Treehouses
Treehouses are some of the most unique glamping accommodations in France. They come in all shapes and sizes, depending on the trees that support them and the craftsmanship of the constructor. Some great examples are the nine treehouses of Les Cabanes de Labrousse in Ardèche, or Cabane Abramane in Vittel. The Cabane Romantique near Dinan is something of a fairytale.
Safari tents
The safari tent is another type of glamping tent in France that is very popular. Safari tents are well suited for warmer weather because of their open design and front deck. Besides, safari tents are very spacious – this safari tent at Ecolodge la Maison Joulin has a shower cabin and the safari tent on Ferme de Keruzerh even has two rooms.
Glamping France: Why and where to go
There’s no better way to connect with the French countryside than glamping, or camping in style. Glamping in France brings you closer to village life, to the locals, regional cuisine and, most of all, nature. Discover glamping in Brittany, the rugged region of medieval fishing towns and a windswept coastline. From a luxe tent glamping à la ferme dans le bois to a tiny house au coeur d'une ferme laitière en Bretagne, glamping Bretagne shows you the region at its best.
Occitanie in the south is an amazing destination for your glamping holiday in France. Picture green hills, serene mountains, and a Mediterranean shore when glamping in Occitanie. The sunny region has many Occitanie glamping options, like the tente de luxe glamping de Eco-village de Pourgues and this tente suspendue dans le bois.
Glamping in Landes is especially popular among hikers and surfers, who love Les Landes’ endless forests, dunes and pristine beaches. Glamping Landes accommodations are in the heart of nature, like these teepees on Camping de l'Etang Blanc à Seignosse. If you’re looking for a family holiday in Landes, camping Landes Oceanes is a bigger campsite with mobile homes for 8 people.
Dordogne is another favorite destination for campers looking for deluxe camping. Glamping in Dordogne, between the Loire Valley and the Pyrenees Mountains, is marveling at prehistoric caves, waterfalls and natural landscapes along the Dordogne River with its gorges and rapids. For glamping Dordogne, stay in a yourte authentique au coeur de la forêt de la Bessède or this glamping tent on Domaine de la Paille Basse.
